As a studio, Perennial focuses on the creation of furniture and lighting pieces that embody the recurring and honest qualities of perennial flora in the natural world. They use 3D objects to
examine the ways in which contemporary definitions of craft and quality have evolved to become inclusive of digital manufacturing techniques and batch production.

I began the creation of Perennial Design studio during the final year of my undergraduate studies.
In tandem with the creation of physical objects, I found myself much more interested in the development of something larger than my own
interests at that particular moment of time - I wanted to create something with the ability to last.

It’s vital that the colors and expression of the studio mirrors the objects we create, along with the values that we stand for. Perennial chooses to use a subtle and muted color palette, with a variety of accent colors to breathe life into the work.

Perennial continues to be my entrepreneurial and product design outlet, along with a means by which I am developing a network of makers and designers in New York City. The execution of a solo venture has been, at the very least, a tremendous professional learning experience. I have learned how to hold myself and others accountable to long term goals through weekly deliverables. I have learned how to communicate actively with people at all levels of the product creation and sale pipeline. I have learned how to create budgets, financial reports, file taxes as a business entity, hire contract employees (legally), and delegate responsibilities clearly.

I am invested in the qualities of objects that make them perennial - this ethos is created from my own reflections on the current object design landscape. I carry the same attention to quality and detail in everything that I do, which makes it almost impossible to separate myself the business entity that is Perennial. All of this said, I have made the conscious decision to create a (somewhat artificial) barrier between my (Elliott’s) identity and Perennial’s identity. I am hoping that this is for the good of both of us, as it will allow both of us to evolve in different directions if need be.
